On October 11, reporters interviewed Ren's father on the phone.

Ren's father told reporters that upon learning the news that Ren was singing at an underpass, at first, they did not agree with their daughter's decision. They thought she should return home and do the farming instead of singing songs at an underpass. "She said she wanted to sing. And later we came to understand her."

In the past several years, Ren had a really rough time. Talking about this, Ren's father said he was sorry for her. "We do our best to make her happy. Every time she comes back I will cook fried garlic sprouts for her."

Ren's father told reporters that their biggest worry was that she was not living a comfortable life. "All we hope for is her health. We do not have any other requests."
