The Great Wall of China attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. But it is archaeologists not tourists that are getting the best view of it, as China conducts a study of the entire length of the 5,000-kilometer wall.

In the Hushan section of the Great Wall, archaeologists were paying special attention to a 560-meter-long section that was partially damaged. There they unearthed some beacon towers, arrowheads and fragments of ancient armour. All this confirms that the Hushan Great Wall served as a good defense system.

In a nearby farm field, a two-meter-high stone tablet dating back to the Ming Dynasty was also found. On the tablet, carved characters supplied more important information for the greatest study ever of the Great Wall.

Further research led the experts to say the Hushan section was built in 1469 and served as one of the most important military forts in Ming Dynasty times.
